DateScribe is designed with your privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers. All journal entries, connection profiles, scores, lists, and settings are stored exclusively on your device using local storage.
Data Collection
DateScribe collects no data. Specifically:
- We do not use analytics or tracking of any kind
- We do not use advertising or ad networks
- We do not use any third-party services or SDKs that collect data
- We do not require account creation or login credentials
- We have no servers that receive your data
- The app makes no network requests
On-Device Storage
All data you create in DateScribe — including journal entries, people, dates, scores, lists, and settings — is stored locally on your device using IndexedDB. This data exists only on your device and in your device backups (iCloud or local, depending on your settings).
Photos
If you choose to attach photos to journal entries, those photos are stored locally on your device. Camera and photo library access is requested only when you initiate a photo action. Photos are never uploaded or transmitted.
Data Deletion
Deleting the DateScribe app from your device will permanently remove all associated data. You can also export your data as a JSON backup from within the app before deletion.
Children's Privacy
DateScribe does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. The app is rated 4+ but is designed for adult users.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever update this privacy policy, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Given the offline nature of the app, the fundamentals of this policy are unlikely to change.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is my data stored?
All data is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server. Your journal entries, connections, and lists exist only on your iPhone.
Can I back up my data?
Yes. Your data is included in your standard iPhone backup (iCloud or local). You can also export your entire journal as a JSON file from the More tab — Settings — Export journal data.
What happens if I delete the app?
All data will be permanently deleted. We strongly recommend exporting a backup first using the export feature in Settings.
Can I use DateScribe on multiple devices?
Each device maintains its own independent journal. There is no cloud sync at this time.
How do I add a photo to a date entry?
When logging a new date, you'll see an option to add a photo. Tap it to choose from your photo library or take a new photo. The app will ask for camera or photo library permission the first time.
What are the coaching prompts?
Coaching prompts are thoughtful reflection questions drawn from real coaching experience. You'll find them under the More tab — Coaching. They're designed to help you think more deeply about what you're looking for in a connection.
Is my data really private?
Yes. DateScribe has no accounts, no cloud sync, no analytics, and no tracking. The app makes zero network requests. Your reflections are completely yours.
